Our story started in 2016 when one of my coworkers was in a horrific car accident that had her hospitalized for almost nine months. She had no available sick time to use while in the hospital, so her insurance from the job was about to lapse. My best friend and I started selling Gatorade® and bottled water for one dollar and having numerous fundraisers to cover the cost of insurance while in the hospital. We received so much support that we started taking care of her household bills and covering her father’s parking fees while visiting her in the hospital. She returned to work, and I am happy to report that she is doing well. We have stayed true to the cause ever since and have helped numerous employees in the department, from clerical staff to sworn personnel. The need for our cause has grown so much that the fundraiser is no longer enough, and that is why your help is needed.
